They’re most basic to my daily life and my security. I’m in an ok place with all three, but all could be better especially with others in mind; I would prefer to have excellent public transit here, and I want enough housing and resources to go around so no one needs to worry about their basic needs.

living on limited, fixed incomes, my wife and I see our hometown becoming less affordable, more dangerous, less responsive and more politically stupid. We raised kids here. Wouldn’t recommend it now. City government is bloated, with too many supervisors and directors and not enough workers. Street crime is rampant, and goes unpunished. Machines answer the phone. And every time I hear the word “vibrant,” I want to vomit.

compounds poorly with the attitude of many city officials that we can’t solve our own problems and must rely on state and federal help; the feds are slashing funding, and in many ways so is the state. If we don’t rethink our approach to how we solve problems to be something we can fund and control, we’re going to be forced to watch our city stagnate and die, while just hoping big money starts flowing again.

The way these three issues are or are not addressed in the next few years are going to determine the fate of our City and it's inhabitants. In my opinion, it is in no way certain that the future will be brighter, at least as things stand.
