How can we ensure that our downtown businesses will remain strong and stable and continue to draw the population of people who have plenty of disposable income? How can we ensure that our City remains a city that is both welcoming to others and affordable enough for regular Vermonters to stay here? The way these three issues are or are not addressed in the next few years are going to determine the fate of our City and it's inhabitants.

Lastly, and this is just random. I find the train yard to be a real problem in terms of noise, exhaust and separating us from the lake. I tried to get the idling train addressed in the past and they are not responsive.

compounds poorly with the attitude of many city officials that we can’t solve our own problems and must rely on state and federal help; the feds are slashing funding, and in many ways so is the state. If we don’t rethink our approach to how we solve problems to be something we can fund and control, we’re going to be forced to watch our city stagnate and die, while just hoping big money starts flowing again.
